At bedtime, Eddie asked me "Did you hear the song about the old woman who swallowed a fly when you were a kid?"
"Yes, I did!" I told him.
"Did your mother or father show you it on their phone?"
"No," I said. "When I was a kid, phones weren't like they are now. They stayed in one place and were attached to the wall. You could only use them to talk to people. They didn't have screens to look at things."
"Then how did you hear that song?"
"I heard people singing it, at school and stuff!"
Eddie seemed to find this idea terribly old fashioned.
Or else it is a comment on papa's, or nonno's, or g. subie's, singing!
ReplyDeleteNot only old fashioned, perhaps, but potentially unpleasant and painful to the ears, if what came up in his remembery were occasions of his nonno's singing.
